Molecare Vet Diary

November 2020

This month the Molecare team has expanded as we have welcomed Alice Coppin-Harris to our team of Veterinary Surgeons, and Hannah Palfrey as our new Data Recorder.

Whilst Alice has come on board as a veterinary surgeon and will be working alongside the rest of the team to support our clients’ veterinary needs, Hannah’s role as Data Recorder will focus on monitoring, recording and collating data from our clients to allow us to closely manage and track changes on farm.

In addition to the team expansion, we have also started to on-board clients for our Calf Vaccination Programme as we encourage clients to take a preventative approach to respiratory disease to improve the overall health, wellbeing and efficiency of their calves over winter.

We have also been busy working with our autumn block calvers in preparation for service later this month. When the service period starts it is vitally important that every cow is clean and cycling ready for the first round of AI in order to maximise pregnancy rates early in the block. Veterinary input for pre-breeding checks at this time can help to achieve up to 100% submission rates in the first three weeks of service. It is also worth considering that front loading the block like this can be beneficial as it gives the cows plenty of time to recover after calving to get ready for service, and reduces loss of cows out of the end of the block.

Finally, our next Beef Discussion webinar is coming up on Wednesday 18th November. Taking place at 7pm, our veterinary team will be presenting on the topic of ‘Selecting for the Future of your herd’, where they will cover EBVs and Bull Selection. These events have been really well received to date, so if you would like to join us, please email [email protected]

If you would like any advice on any of the above, or to book in for your pre-breeding check, please contact the practice on 01392 872934 or email [email protected]
